Ashta Prathaapa Giri Valam Days
Eight Special Days at Arunachala
Day 1 - Nov/17/99
The Siddhas have designed a special eight day giri valam worship procedure for this
Pramaadhi year (mid April 1999 to mid April 2000).
This is the Ashta Prathaapa Arunachala Giri Valam worship procedure.
Nov/17/99 is the first day of this eight day period.
As we have said, Arunachala Giri Valam (circling the Arunachala Hill) is the panacea for all
ills, both material and spiritual. With each step during giri valam, look at the peak of the Arunachala Hill.
Every one of these visions is a Arunachala Muka Darshan, a vision of Arunachala, a vision of Truth Eternal.
These visions bless us with everything that we desire for in both the material and spiritual worlds.
While many of us say that we do not have any material desires,
it's only the Siddhas who are truly devoid of material desires.
The rest of us are in the grip of material maaya, whether we like to accept it or not.
But this is not all bad, say the Siddhas, as long as what we desire is at least righteous.
Lord Arunachala knows our righteous material desires and He satisfies them as a reward for our practice of the
girivalam worship procedure. He then uplifts us to a state where we realize the futility of material craving and
start yearning for spirituality alone. Arunachala giri valam is the way to achieve this sublime spiritual state.
The Siddhas know that we are quite generous with our material desires.
There's no end to our craving!
We don't limit ourselves to one or two desires; we have thousands and thousands of desires;
we crave many many things in the material world!
Wealth as a Gift from Arunachala
One of the most significant of human cravings is the hankering after material wealth.
Be that as it may, say the Siddhas, as long as we get this wealth as a result of
a personal blessing from Arunachala arising from our practice of Arunachala giri valam.
The wealth that's acquired via Arunachala's blessing alone is permanent wealth.
So if you desire to be wealthy, at least desire to get it as a result of Arunachala giri valam;
get is as a gift from Arunachala.
What's the point in becoming a millionaire at 75?
What's the point in becoming wealthy if you're not going tobe around to enjoy it?
What's the point in being wealthy if there's no peace of mind that goes with it?
But none of these will be problems if you acquire your wealth as a personal blessing
from Arunachala resulting from your practice of Arunachala giri valam.
Arunachala will not only bless you with great wealth, but also with longevity and
peace of mind to enjoy it. This is the reason that you must acquire wealth only as a
personal gift from Arunachala.
If you acquire wealth and lose it all, do not get angry, say the Siddhas.
This means that this wealth is not a manifestation of Truth and thus it's best that it did not remain with you.
It was only a play of Maaya, not of Arunachala.
So don't angry if this kind of situation befalls you. If this wealth had been the result of Arunachala's
blessing, it would have "stayed" with you permanently.
What should you do to acquire "permanent" wealth? Wealth that "stays" with you permanently?
Perform Arunachala giri valam on the evening or night of Nov/17/99.
This is a special worship procedure known as Selva Muka Linga Darshan.
Nov/17/99 at Arunachala happens to be a very interesting mix of spiritual time periods:
Navami and Dasami thithis, Pooratadhi nakshatram and Vishnupathi punya kaalam.
Arunachala giri valam during this mixture of spiritually significant time periods will
result in the devotee acquiring wealth, longevity and peace, say the Siddhas.
Nov/17/99 Giri Valam Procedure - Selva Muka Linga Darshan
The Siddhas have described the giri valam procedure for Nov/17/99.
They say that giri valam on this day should start at the East gopuram of the
Arunachala temple. At the East gopuram entrance way, get darshan of Sri Lakshana Vinayaka.
Worship Lakshana Vinayaka, meditate on Mother Lakshmi and start your giri valam.
As we said above, you need a long life to make use of your wealth.
Sri Yama Dharmaraja blesses us with longevity.
On Nov/17/99, carry Sampangi flowers in your hands and in a bag while performing girivalam.
On the giri valam route, stop by the Yama Linga Theertham pond and take a ritual bath there
or at least sprinkle water from that sacred pond on your head and body. Perform archana
for the Yama Lingam using the sampangi flowers. Take a few of these flowers as prasad,
wrap them in yellow colored cloth and
hold this in your hand as you perform giri valam. Why?
In honor of Mother Lakshmi and in recognition of
the connection between sampangi flowers and "permanence".
Mother Lakshmi is the reason
that we have sampangi flowers today. She desired a "permanent" place in Lord Narayana's heart and
performed severe penance over a long period of time in many punya kshetras (holy lands),
Arunachala being one of these sacred places. At Arunachala, Mother Lakshmi performed giri valam
over many years and saw countless Arunachala Muka Darshans. As a result of this sincere worship,
She got a "permanent" place in Lord Narayana's heart. One of Her worship procedures was
Siva Linga archana using sampangi flowers. This worship procedure blesses one's husband with longevity.
Giri Valam on Nov/17/99 should be concluded at the shrine of Sri Bootha Narayana
which is near the Arunachala temple. From that shrine, look at the peak of the Arunachala Hill.
This darshan on Nov/17/99 is known variously as Vishnupathi darshan, Maha Lakshmi darshan,
Satya Narayana darshan and Satya Bootha Narayana darshan. Worship Sri Bootha Narayana,
get Arunachala Muka darshan from that spot and then submit your prayers, wishes and desires to
Sri Arunachala.
From Nov/17/99 onwards, perform Arunachala giri valam 1000 times within a two year period.
Those who do this will be the receipients of great wealth as a personal blessing from Arunachala.
This is the righteous way of acquiring great material wealth. This is a special prescription
of the Siddhas for the Pramaadhi year.
Five Important Darshans on Nov/17/99
As we have said in the article on basic girivalam rules, we
should look at the peak of the Arunachala Hill with every step on the giri valam route.
But during your giri valam on Nov/17/99, you must make sure that you get five important
Arunachala muka darshans. These are special darshans revealed by the Siddhas for Nov/17/99.
1. Lakshana Thiru Muka Linga Darshan: At the east gopuram entrance way, look at the form of
Sri Lakshana Vinayaka, close your eyes, train your face towards the Arunachala Hill, open your eyes
and look at the peak of the hill. The eyes which took in Sri Lakshana Vinayaka's form just a moment
ago are now filled with the form of Arunachala! This darshan purifies and prepares us to be a worthy
recipient of the great wealth that Arunachala is going tobless us with.
2. Oudhumbara Darshan: From the Yama Lingam shrine, with hands filled with sampangi flowers, look at
the peak of the Arunachala Hill. This darshan blesses you with longevity so that you can put
your wealth to good use.
3. Paranjothi Darshan: This is the vison of the Arunachala Hill as you turn right on Sengam Road.
From this location, one can get many many sookshma (subtle) darshans, but that's an advanced topic.
Many Siddhas and yogis worship Arunachala from this spot to this day. Many of them do it in sookshma (subtle) form.
Generally those who have made Selva Vinayaka their personal deity will get darshan of Selva Vinayaka at this spot,
say the Siddhas.
4. Vaivasvatha Linga Muka Darshan: The vision of Arunachala from the Kubera Lingam shrine.
This Siva Lingam was worshipped by Mother Lakshmi Herself! It's a very important stop on the giri valam route.
It's one of the ashta dik lingams which are on the Arunachala gir valam route.
5. Satya Bootha Narayana Darshan: Vision of the Arunachala Hill from the Bootha Narayana shrine on Nov/17/99.
This darshan completes the Selva Muka Linga Darshan giri valam procedure for Nov/17/99.
Giri Valam, A Gift From Arunachala
Arunachala giri valam is a gift. It's a gift that blesses you with many many more gifts.
Accept this gift. Make use of it. Share it with others. This is the advice of the
Siddhas.
